Close intimate relationships can have immense benefits, such as when support from close others protects individuals from the damaging effects of stressful events. Close relationships can also undermine psychological and physical wellbeing, such as when people experience conflict, power struggles, aggression, or neglect in their relationship. The primary goal of my research is to investigate how to overcome emotional, attachment and relationship difficulties to build healthy social relationships and enhance wellbeing. I investigate how couples and families can effectively resolve conflict and support each other, and the factors that influence these important relationship processes, such as biased perceptions, depressive symptoms, attachment insecurity, power, and sexist attitudes.
